Lutein / Zeaxanthin

Tagetes L.

Lutein and zeaxanthin contain carotenoids which particularly occur in egg yolks and dark-green leafy vegetables. Commercially, Lutein is extracted from Tagetes (Marigold). Scientific research has found special benefits of Lutein in eye health. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are used for the prevention and treatment of eye diseases like macular degeneration, cataract and retinitis pigmentosa. The biological mechanisms for the protective effects of these carotenoids may include powerful blue-light filtering activities and antioxidant properties.
