Cinnamon is known to imitate insulin activity and increase glucose transportation into the cells. This mechanism lowers blood sugar levels. Cinnamon extract is used in nutritional supplements.
For long term intake, a low content of cumarin is important. Cumarin is suspected to increase the risk of developing cancer.
