Pomegranate has originated in Iran, were it has been cultivated for over 3000 years. Already in ancient times, Pomegranate has been distributed to Asia and the Mediterranian. Today, Pomegranate is commercially cultivated mainly in mediterranean climate zones.
Apart from a multitude of vitamins and minerals, Pomegranate contains polyphenols and flavonoids. The substances are know to protect the oxidation of LDL-Cholesterol and thus prevent arteriosclerosis of the coronary blood vessels. Pomegranate contains even more Polyphenols than red wine or dark grape juice.
